Wooden frames have been used ever since windows with glass panes exist. Wooden window frames are primarily made from spruce, pine and oak. These three types of wood are robust and renewable raw materials.

The advantages of window profiles made of wood are:

  • Insulation, it is a bad conductor of heat, wood provides 1800 times more insulation than aluminum window frames
  • Aesthetics, when it comes to beauty wooden frames is irreplaceable, virtually all other window frames attempt to mimic the look of wood
  • Wood lasts longer, in all tests wooden windows had a service life of at least twice that of PVC windows
  • Coefficient of expansion, it has better long term value than other types of window profiles
  • Environmentally – friendly, they absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere than they produce

Disadvantages of window profiles made of wood are:

  • Maintenance, it requires a lot of care, painting every few years
  • Insects, they are probably wood’s worst enemy, especially termites, keeping the frame properly painted will ward off insects
  • Can swell, untreated window frames will swell from moisture, making it difficult to open or close the window
  • Not very durable also if not looked after properly
  • More expensive to buy
